We’ve been getting a lot of questions about the ferry because it’s not a widely known option of transport to this area. When we were doing our own research we didn’t find a ton of information on things like how to prepare your vehicle, what to pack, the many ways you can sleep on board, food, boat amenities, and things of that nature. Since taking the ferry we’ve been able to clear a lot of those things up and now we’ll be able to come better prepared in the future and I want to pass that wisdom on to you all!

Thanks for the super informative video! We're in the process of planning our own trip to Alaska and considering catching the ferry for a bit. The info on pets is particularly helpful for us! 🙂
This was incredibly helpful. We are planning to take the ferry to Alaska this summer. Didn't even know camping on the deck was an option. Looks like the way to go! Thank you for posting this. Watched another of your videos and just hit the subscribe button. Nicely done!
Great video. Long time ferry rider, I'd just add one thing. A lot of people who do the solarium aren't bringing cars. They are going to be ahead of you onto the boat. You need to park and haul swiftly for your lawnchair first thing. Bring something to leave on it, then go back for your gear.
So helpful, thank you! This experience is definitely on my list.
Do they stop in Canada ?? I don’t want to deal with customs and the issues with my firearms.
What would you say is the average length in port? And is the trip more about the ferry ride itself, or the stops in port?
Great iformation, thanks
thank you
Ive always wanted to visit Alaska and I'll be moving to the PNW later this year. I learned about this ferry and it was like a dream come true. I really want to do this and your video was so informative!
I was looking into the fairy for when I move there. But guess I'll have to get a passport and go through Canada. That cost and almost no access to my rv while traveling is a deal killer. Not gonna happen for me sadly. 😔
This is a great video. I am planning to travel to AK on a motorcycle and had no idea about any of the details. Now I do. Thanks!
About how long did the ferry stop at each town along the way? 1-2 hours?
I want to do this. My biggest concern is my dog. I might buy an artificial turf potty thing for her to go on.
I don't usually comment but this was a great video.
microwave popcorn…great idea!
Could you not sleep in the RV?
Great video, like watching you, you have such a friendly demeanour. Maybe a mention of going through Canadian waters and what passport requirements are.
I’m trying to leave Alaska for the very first time in my life. This video is a big help.
Something travelers should keep an eye out for. When the Ferry's stop in the smaller southeast communities, some of the town residents come on board for lunch or dinner in the ship's cafeteria. Don't be afraid to spark up a conversation with the locals or don't be surprised if we spark up a conversation with you 😁Great video I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Mack🤐Mac, Super informative, and well narrated. I blew a gasket at the bloober reel. Godspeed –
What???!!! I moved to Seattle last year and one of my favorite things to do is ride the ferry, since I grew up in a landlocked state. I often go on them for no reason other than to ride it. I had no idea you could take a ferry to Alaska and I'm absolutely going to do this trip!
Good video! 1st, a little criticism/correction, it is the Alaska Marine Highway System, not the Alaskan Marine Highway System. Ok, got that out of the way. You definitely made the right choice by using a truck camper. Taking a big RV can be very expensive, but it will still make for a memorable trip. You did a good job describing your experience traveling on The Alaska Marine Highway System. Keep in mind, there are other ships, like the Columbia. The Columbia goes to Sitka along the way and has a full service sit down restaurant for those that like more service and comfort. While the cabins are not cheep, they are reasonably priced. I have done The Alaska Marine Highway System twice now. However, I take it from Haines to Prince Rupert, BC, Canada and drive south to Washington. In order to make the trip more enjoyable and to save money on a room, I get off at every port (Juneau, Sitka, Petersburg, Wrangell, and Ketchikan) and spend a few days at a campground at each stop. I even take another ferry over to Prince of Wales Island and spend a week there. SE Alaska is very scenic and beautiful. It is entirely different from the rest of Alaska. Being mostly US Forest, there are many campsites and campgrounds where you can stay. Contact me if you need any more info about doing it this way.
Thank you for the great information!
I just called they said $2,400 from Bellingham to Whittier Alaska. I know diesel has gone up. Of course they're not buying it at the pump but I'm sure there's an increase. It was $980 something dollars. Somebody in that corporate is smoking something they should stop. And they couldn't tell me how much for a motorcycle right now they said they'd have to wait till March. So what they want $3,000 probably just for you and a motorcycle under Alaska Marine highway b*******. They say they're having a rough time in the past few years I can see why. They keep up this trend they won't be open too long many more years.
Just found your vlog….was the 1,500$ for vehicle round trip?
Was second ferry total separate booking ?
How many times did you pass through Canada while traveling around? (Required passport?) I know prices probably went up..
I’m actually in Alaska now I am originally from CA. I drove up through Canada. I would love to try the ferry since it can have my car through but I will be going back to CA. When it comes to booking could I call the ferry company to book? I’m trying to get my information straight because In about a year I will probably head back to CA and I want to make sure I have rough estimate of price and procedures for taking the ferry. Thanks for the video! I been struggling to find more in-depth information for myself to use and plan ahead.
When I came across your video I knew it would be informative. The pet in the car for the trip was a no go, shoot!
