[swipe 👈🏻] Bodybuilding is quietly but steadily on the rise in Japan. The Japan Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (JBBF) has registered 3,000 competitive bodybuilders in 2017, nearly twice as much as in 2012, when the number of competitors was of 1,789. The qualities judges look for are almost imperceptible to the untrained eye. All muscles should be developed to their maximum size but must also work in balance and harmony, with muscle density, separation and definition all highly valued. The JBBF, which is affiliated to the Japanese Olympic Committee, would like to see bodybuilding become an Olympic sport. (Yoshiaki Miura photos)
