Here’s how to get from Haneda Airport to Tokyo Center the fastest and easiest way! It’s the way I always choose whenever I come back to Tokyo via Haneda Airport. And that is taking the MONORAIL. Why? Because it’s fast, easy, convenient and cheap at the same time 🙂

So, whatever your destination in Tokyo center is, Tokyo, Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Ueno, Akihabara, Harajuku…, definitely consider this monorail. If you get paid by someone else or don’t care much about money, taking a cab directly to your hotel is obviously the best way 🙂 But if you’re on your own, the monorail is definitely the best option, in my opinion.

This Monorail is a short rail (17.8 km), with one end is Haneda Airport Terminal 2, and the other end is Hamamatsucho Station. And this Hamamatsucho station is connected to the main railway in Japan, which is the Japan Railway (or JR in short).

So the way it works is, you take the Monorail from Haneda Airport to Hamamatsucho station, and then, at Hamamatsucho station, you switch to the JR train to go to your destination.

The monorail and the train are owned and operated by 2 different companies. But you don’t have to buy 2 different tickets for your trip. You just buy 1 combined ticket at Haneda airport.

A better option, an alternative option to buying a ticket is buying the Suica card, which I demonstrated in this video. It’s the card that almost everyone in Tokyo is using everyday, including myself. Not only is it a peace of mind, it’s also a way to save time and money!
Why?
In Japan, the train ticket cost is calculated based on your start and end-station. So if you have this Suica card, you don’t have to check what ticket you have to buy every time. That saves a lot of time & effort! Plus, tickets cost a little less if you pay by Suica card. Plus, you can use this Suica card to pay at so many places, including vending machines, convenient stores, supermarkets, restaurants… Plus, most importantly, in my opinion, you can avoid all the little coins!

***Notes for the Suica card***
– Only charge an amount needed for 1-2 days. Don’t charge lots of money to the card. In case you lose it, you won’t lose lots of money.
– If you buy a card with your name on it, you can get it reissued in case you lose it. Make sure to have the same name as your passport.
– 500 yen is deposited to your card and you can get this money back when you return the card. You have to use up all your money in the card when you want to return it.

In short, from Haneda Airport International Terminal (Terminal 3) to Hamamatsucho Station (Tokyo center) by monorail:
– Time: 13 minutes (Rapid, no stops in between. Normal monorails take a few minutes longer)
– Cost: 200 yen/Adult, 100 yen/Child + ticket cost of JR train to your destination

BEST CARD FOR TOURISTS:
====================================================
* If you’re just visiting Japan for a short period of time,
consider the WELCOME SUICA card instead.
It’s a Suica card that does NOT require deposit,
and good for 28 days.
** You can buy it at ticket vending machines at the airports,
or at JR Travel Service Centers in town.

  1. For 3 person using suica card for transportation. Do we need to buy each or 1 card is ok?

  2. What is the 500 yen deposit for the card? Do you not get that back?

  3. What about luggage sizes on the monorail? Are they any restrictions to the number of luggages or size of the luggages

  4. Thank you so much! We will be travelling to Japan for the first time in February and we will be going from Haneda Airport to Shinjuku, so I found this SUPER helpful. Thank you!

  5. i find this very helpful….i have a 12hrs stopover in japan and i wanted to explore a little bit..maybe 8 hrs of exploring and eating…hehe…

  6. Hello there, thanks for the useful information. We have 20 hrs layover at Haneda in Jan nxt year.. is there any free tour offer at the airport?

  7. Hello! Thank you very much for the excellent video. Could you please answer my below questions?

    Location 2:06

    1) All the stations have two prices (for example, Tokyo 660/330, Shimbashi 640/320, Akihabara 660/330 etc). Are the smaller amounts (330, 320, 330 etc) are for off peak hours?

    2) I will be reaching Haneda airport @ 8:30 pm. By the time I clear customs and immigration, get my baggage from the carousel, it will be 9:30 ~9:45 pm. Could you please advise when is the last Monorail that operates from Haneda to Shibuya?

    3) I need to go to Yamanote Shibuya Station. So I catch the Monorail from Haneda to Hamamatsucho, transfer from Monorail station @ Hamamatsucho to JR station Hamamatsucho and go to Shibuya, correct? How far is the Hamamatsucho Monorail station to Hamamatsucho Yamanote Line station? Do I need to take a taxi?

    5) How come Hamamatsucho station does not appear in the display @ Location 2:06? If I need to go to Hamamatsucho, how can I choose it if it doesn't appear on the display?

    4) Could you please advise if the JR people @ Hamamatsucho Yamanote Line can change my JR voucher to JR pass? I will buy the JR voucher in Canada.

    Location 2:54

    5) You said Suica Card will save a lot of time and money. Time, yes. Money, how? If I use Suica Card to pay for something, I will pay the exact same price if I paid in cash, correct? So could you please clarify how I will save money by using Suica Card?

    Location 3:28

    6) The display says "Purchase Monorail Suica". So the card bought at Haneda Monorail station can be used ONLY in Monorails? Not for other things? Could you please clarify?

    Location 6:59

    7) What is a Fair Adjustement machine? Do I need to use this machine?

    8) My onward flight is at 8:30 am from Haneda. Could you please inform me the time of the first Monorail that runs from Hamamatsucho to Haneda airport?

Sorry to have asked so many questions and thank you very much for your time.

  8. One More Nice Video Again ! But it looks there's the same Nike backpack… :)))
