Yatai are traditional food stalls that typically set up in the early evening and do business late into the night, hawking hearty Japanese food such as ramen, gyoza, yakitori, oden and other pub fare. Beer, sake and shochu are usually available to accompany the food. While yatai have been in Japan for hundreds of years, their numbers have dwindled as of late. However you can still find yatai in cities such as Tokyo and Osaka, and they are prevalent in the city of Fukuoka. Check out a yatai when you visit Japan and experioence nightlife like a local!
