Often overlooked and still relatively obscure, Ishikawa Prefecture’s Noto Peninsula remains a wealth of traditional crafts and cuisine, dramatic landscapes and vibrant festivals. The region is easily overlooked by tourists, however. Many of the finest writers on the Japanese landscape — Matsuo Basho, Alan Booth, Lesley Downer, even that dedicated itinerant Fumiko Hayashi — skipped or skirted the peninsula.
