350 maple trees in Odoi are spectacular. Autumn leaves in National Treasure Shrine is a must-see.

Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is located in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City, about 40 minutes by bus from Kyoto Station. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, where Michizane Sugawara is enshrined, is famous as the god of learning and is popular with students who pray for passing exams. In autumn, the maple garden of “Odoi” is open to the public, and it is popular as one of the best autumn leaves spots in Kyoto. The best time to see autumn leaves is from mid-November to early December. The national treasure shrine building is beautiful beyond the autumn leaves seen from the observatory. The scenery of Uguisubashi Bridge over Kamiya River and the autumn leaves make you feel the deepening autumn.

Memorandum for photographers and videographers
It is generally said that the best time to see autumn leaves is until early December, but I felt that the area around Uguisubashi Bridge on this day was a little past its peak. The precincts in general were still in peak, but it may be early or late depending on the location. It may be a good idea to consider the timing of your visit with that in mind.

北野天満宮は京都市上京区に位置し、京都駅からバスで40分ほどです。菅原道真公を祀っている北野天満宮は学問の神様として有名で、合格祈願をする受験生に人気です。秋には「御土居」のもみじ苑が公開され、京都でも指折りの紅葉のスポットとして人気です。例年の見頃は11月中旬〜12月上旬です。展望台から眺める紅葉越しに国宝の社殿や、紙屋川に架けられた鶯橋と紅葉の景色は深まりゆく秋を感じさせてくれます。

■撮影メモ
一般的に１２月上旬まで紅葉は見頃と言われていますが、この日の鶯橋の周辺は少し見頃過ぎの感もありました。境内全般にはまだ見頃でしたが、場所によって早い遅いがあるのかもしれません。そのあたりを見込んで参拝の時期をご検討されるとよいかもしれません。
