Established in 1897, The Japan Times has witnessed quite a few imperial changes. In a recent story, staff writer Ryusei Takahashi (@ryuseitakahashi217) looks back at our past coverage spanning two centuries, which included thick bound volumes of stories by our reporters and messages from dignitaries to mark each era. “No event indeed is regarded as more important in this country than the ascension of an Imperial Descendant to the Throne of a Lineage unbroken for ages eternal,” wrote Japan Times and Mail President Yonejiro Ito in 1928.
