Phils is way overrated, the best two spots in San Diego are Hands down Cali Comfort and Coop's.
You've got to try out Coop's West Texas BBQ in Lemon Grove! Now that's great BBQ!
I'm really surprised how you don't put That Boy Good in Oceanside if you are mentioning best BBQ in Daygo. You also skipped Coops Texas BBQ in Lemon Grove.
I am gonna try Abbeys and I the jjs. Just want to mention a couple of things about Phil’s and Cali comfort. Always eager to please the customer Phil’s will fix any issue. They aim to please. Also Phil is just a real down to Earth nice man. He’s been in business a long time and I wish him even more success! Now I have a disabled child. We live very close to Cali comfort. We took my daughter there for her birthday in her wheelchair. My daughter has issues and sometimes she screams due to pain. We went to Cali comfort. They accommodated us so that she would be as comfortable as possible. Treated us like gold. Went out of their way to assure she had a wonderful meal and brought her a peach cobbler. We order the tailgater for our family. They are awesome!
Hit up Smokin J's after watching your video. It's my new favorite San Diego BBQ.
IMO Phils bbq is just okay… dont understand the massive popularity for it. Their ribs have a perfect texture (not too chewy, not too tender) BUT its missing that essential smoke flavor because they roast their ribs in a oven.
I personally think Grand Ole BBQ should have made it on this list

Coops Texas Style BBQ in Lemon Grove is also finger lickin good Jay. Have to try their spicy BBQ sauce. Their sides aren't the best but ribs are tender and perfectly smoked.
Shoulda went down south more and hit grand ole in north park and coops in lemon grove.
I hate to be negative but Phil's is literally THE WORST! Abbey's is GREAT! Grand Ole BBQ is a local favorite now that the Triple L BBQ truck has apparently closed its doors. Coop's is THE BEST BBQ in town. The others I haven't tried. As a native San Diegan, I HATED BBQ most of my life because all I was ever exposed to was Phil's. Wouldn't feed it to my dogs…

Just had Smokin J's today for a delicious Sunday brunch. Everything is soooo flavorful. Really good!!
I’ve tried Grand Ole, Coop’s, Cali Comfort, and Phil’s, but I think the flavor and customer service of Phil’s puts them ahead. Those other places are pretty good too but Phil’s is a totally valid choice for best SD BBQ. Smoke rings aren’t everything.
I love that you mentioned the Mac salad at Phil’s. I literally go there just to order that! And the beef ribs!! You don’t find those everywhere so I’m glad you got them! The “link and a drink” is a great deal too. Their sausages are super tasty.

It would be fun to see a “pick-up” segment with Jaycation using his “method” at San Diego locales on the women but I know that will prolly not happen.

Bowlegged BBq is by far the best I have eaten in SD. Phil's is mediocre and would never survive in the midwest.
The best BBQ i've had so far is Grand Ole BBQ. Definitely need to try Smoking J's.
A lot of people don't know about grand Ole it used to be on 32nd in North park but the location in old hwy 80 is pretty fire best bbq hands down
The guys from Abbeys bbq seemed very passionate about what they do, also the guy talking about how it was named after their sister cracked me up 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 🤣🔥🔥🔥 he seemed a bit triggered 😂😂😂😂 anyway, thank you for the content I love me some bbq 🍗 🍖like anytime of the day will definitely check out these places when I’m in the area!
