On March 15, 1992, a small contingent of Irish and Japanese kicked off a St. Patrick’s Day parade in Tokyo, and the green wave has been growing strong each year.
In an interview with The Japan Times, Hideki Mimura, a 10th-generation potato farmer from Kanagawa Prefecture who has been involved in the management of every parade in Japan., says they were held in 14 prefectures this year and his goal is to get them into all 47.
The parade down Omotesando-dori on Sunday, the largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in Asia, featured a U2 tribute group, a Brazilian samba troupe and more leprechauns than you can shake a stick at. And, of course, bagpipes. (📷: @miura.yoshiaki) See bio link for full story.
