Monday marked the official beginning of adulthood for many in Japan as 20-year-olds across the country took part in various types of coming-of-age day ceremonies. For exampe, in Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward on Saturday, Kokugakuin University hosted a Seijin Kakanshiki, a coming-of-age ceremony associated with nobility from the Nara Period (710-79). On Monday in Tokyo’s Toshima Ward, new adults wearing kimonos posed alongside cosplayers for photos at an anime-themed coming-of-age ceremony. 📷@nicklucyturner
