Traditional Kyoto Confectionery Kanshundō
Kanshundō is a long-established business producing and selling traditional Kyoto-style sweets (kyōgashi); founded in 1865 (year 1 of the Keiō era), it sports a history of more than 150 years.
Whether one tries their famous “daibutsu-mochi” (Giant Buddha Rice Cake) specialty, their high-grade fresh confections (jōnamagashi) in various meticulously created seasonal designs or their dried sweets (higashi) expressing the heart of ancient Kyoto ― all of their products are made with pure regional water and only the finest ingredients, handpicked by the store’s master confectioner.
As their sweets go exceptionally well together with a delicious cup of green tea (e.g. Sencha) or a nice bowl of Matcha, they are also very popular among those practicing the traditional tea ceremony ♪
Furthermore, at the authentic Japanese merchant’s house that their store is located in, which can also be seen in today’s video, they are regularly hosting casual sweets making classes with professional instructions by their master confectioner.
