Ohh my wow 😮 at 17:36 That's a Climbin' Tree, alright! I wanted to look at it longer so we had to back the video up!😆
I just had to search out SANDY's banana bread shop and they close at 2:30 PM every day!!
The local or loco screaming 😱 is shameful, without tourists, you probably would be paying even higher taxes than you surely are 🤦🏼
I wonder knowing what you know now, how you would have done things differently?
In the 1974 when I was in college one of the PE classes I took was backpacking in Maui for 2 weeks. There were 30 of us and it was an adventure of a lifetime. We hiked the road to Hana and swam in many of the waterfall pools along the way. We had permits to came next to the Seven Sacred Falls for 2 days. Beautiful area and sunrises and sunsets. We also did the trail through the rainforest but the trail was just muddy and no planks to walk on. We also swam at the waterfall. Our group were the only ones there. We also had the black sand beach to ourselves. When my wife and I got married in 1981 we went to Maui and drove the road to Hana and a very different experience. Both were terrific.
Sorry you had some difficult people to deal with. Everyone we met was so friendly but it wasn't that crowded back then. I always enjoy you videos. Thanks for sharing your trip. It brought back many terrific memories for me.
Maybe well see you on the road sometime while Rving.
Safe travels
Actually their are too much traffic on the road to Hana. I think locals would prefer you do a helicopter tour and stay off their road. That is the vibe I got when in Hawaii.
Seems peeps who get to live in these beautiful places are so pissy. Must be rough.
I’m sure it’s a different experience because of Covid and increased tourism. We had an amazing experience two years ago. Maybe being in a van is not the best idea. Perhaps a car and a day trip would have been a better choice.
I Survived the Hana Hwy in 1981🦋
Nice family, beautiful views and realistic experiences! New subbie here 🤗
Love you folks, been there done that with Hawaii; not a big fan of their politics. Now going on 10 yrs since; Would I go again NO!
I would not waste a dollar in Hawaii. Over rated
I drove the Hana Highway several times at night with my headlights off under a full moon..Pink Floyd on the cassette player…saw Richard Pryor on the road another time…
I spent 4 of the most amazing months of my life exploring Hawaii, and your assessment of the locals is spot on. Fortunately for you guys, your attitude was also! You're exactly correct—there is A LOT of history (that happened not too long ago compared to the rest of America's history) and enough locals (understandably) still harbor a lot of resentment towards mainlanders and tourists. It made me happy that you guys took the time to understand and respect why/where the animosity is coming from and didn't let it ruin your trip. Also, Marissa's mandated order to watch the sunrise cracked me up! I'm so glad your family had a wonderful time.
I’ve biked to and from Hana when I lived in Hawaii years ago. Even back then motorists were not always very patient. But it is worth the trip.
one problem is these channels are giving away all the 'secret' spots locals love. as a 4×4 jeep family I have seen so many of my favorite spots ruined because everyone has GPS now and wants to follow some video recommendation. turn the cameras off and enjoy family time
How many ole sh,, moments y’all have .
Cool beach spot
The bamboo forest is at the end of Hana, well worth the trip. Mahalo.
Loved this video and I love your channel! I STILL want to go to Hana! ❤ RED
Where is this $50 a night camping? I'm a local and go to Hana often, would love to know this spot!
I totally understand 😂one time me and my wife we were in Panama and the Uber driver was saying how peaceful ppl and place was and one minute later I witnessed a road rage 😤 two cars down a driver gets out off the car, walked up to the driver that was blocking the road and punched the lights out of the driver that was blocking the road I was speechless 😶 and burst out 😂 on how peaceful ppl are
You are braver than me. We did the road to Hana in a mini van and I wouldn't have done it in anything bigger. We did the hike to the bamboo forest and the sounds they make are so cool. The sad thing is the waterfall trail was closed so we didn't get to see the waterfall.
I have traveled to many countries and never felt like I was an unwanted visitor more than when I went to Maui.
So sad the locals were so rude ,but the areas were beautiful .
It sounds like the issues you had were all related to the vehicle you were driving. Probably not an issue if you were in a car.
