The Nachi-no-Ogi Matsuri is held at Kumano Nachi Taisha Grand Shrine on July 14th each year, and it’s one of the largest fire festivals in Japan. The event involves participants carrying impressively large flaming torches from the shrine to a sacred waterfall as part of a purification ritual.
The festival has been designated as an important intangible folk cultural property, and this incredible photo was taken just two days ago at this year’s event! 🔥
