Let’s explore Aomori Prefecture!

🥾 Hike or cycle the trails along Oirase Stream, set deep in the lush forest of Lake Towada National Park.

🍄 Explore Towada Art Center, known for its modern and quirky installations.

🎆 If you’re visiting in early August, you won’t want to miss the Aomori Nebuta Festival. The main attraction: The nightly parade of giant, colourful lantern floats modelled on famous historical and mythological Japanese characters.

🍎 Onward to Hirosaki City Apple Park where you’ll find over 1,200 kinds of apple related food and crafts. Fun fact: Aomori produces around 60% of Japan’s apples!

🏯 After you’re appled out, stop by Hirosaki Castle to learn about the iconic fortress and wander its castle grounds. The area is especially scenic in sakura season from late April to early May.

🥣 Finish off your visit with a bowl of ichigo-ni, a local specialty of sea urchin and abalone in a seafood broth that is typically eaten on special occasions.
