Magome-juku is a wonderfully preserved post town on the ancient Nakasendo route in Gifu Prefecture. It is tucked away in the mountains with lovely cobblestone streets. Each house looks near the same as it did in the 17th or 18th century when it was first built. And, they’re all still in-use, so don’t go poking into someone’s house uninvited! Walk down the path through the town and you’ll feel the past come alive.
