July 7th is the Tanabata Festival, said to be the only night every year that the star-crossed lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi, represented by Vega and Altair, can meet in the sky! 🌌💕
It is one of the largest summer festivals in Japan and people celebrate by writing their wishes on thin strips of paper and hanging them on bamboo grass 🎋
Festivals all over the country celebrate this tradition, but the Sendai Tanabata Festival, held in August, is one of the top festivals in Tohoku and has been held for over 400 years.
It was canceled in 2020 and scaled back in 2021, but returns to its previous glory in summer 2022!
Do you have a wish to write for this year’s Tanabata?
