Today I’m splurging and having street food in Osaka again. One of the things that is a must-eat are Uncle Rikuro’s cheese cakes, which are a heavenly treat to have when visiting Osaka in Japan. The cheesecakes are sold fresh out of the oven meaning they are baked at the very shop where you buy them. This cheese cake is the softest and fluffiest cake ever! You’re spoon will just slide through it like soft butter. It tastes more like a pudding than a cake. The bottom of the cake has sweet raisins in it which gives the cake a nice texture. The delicate flavours are explicit. There are always endless queues at the counter and the Japanese can’t get enough of Uncle Rikuro’s cheese cakes.
If you visit this cheese cake shop please take some time and observe how fast they are and how neatly they make the cake. They ring the bell when the cheese cakes comes straight out of the oven and are ready to be sold to the public immediately.
If you ever find yourself in Osaka, pop by Rikuro’s cheese cake shop and get yourself a fluffy cake and make sure you have it asap while warm. I promise you won’t be let down. We finished a whole cake in one sitting (and got another one the day after)!🙈
We also tried Osaka-style Okonomiyaki which is called ‘Modanyaki’. This name refers to ‘modern Okonomiyaki’. Okonomiyaki is sometimes compared to an omelette or a pancake and may be referred to as a “Japanese pizza” or “Osaka soul food”. In Osaka the okonomiyaki is prepared like a pancake. The batter and other ingredients are pan-fried on both sides on either a teppan or a pan using metal spatulas that are later used to slice the dish when it has finished cooking. Cooked okonomiyaki is topped with ingredients that include okonomiyaki sauce, seaweed flakes, katsuboshi (bonito flakes), and Japanese mayonnaise.
Takoyaki, or Octopus Balls is one of Japan’s best-known street food originated in Osaka. Takoyaki is a very popular Japanese street food. It’s shaped like a ball and has a crispy coating around the outside and a soft filling inside made of wheat flour, diced octopus, and ginger.
