Can you guess just how long ago this rock spire was formed? ❓⛰
A massive spire of rock juts into the sky on the coast just outside of Fukui city. Hokoshima is its name, and it was formed from the cooling magma of a volcanic eruption. There’s a small footbridge leading over to the uniquely shaped rock. If you’re looking for a little adventure, you are allowed to climb to the top! A tiny shrine awaits you at the peak.
Oh, and the magma that became Hokoshima erupted nearly 14 million years ago!
