Oku-Matsushima is a scenic area centering on Miyatojima in Higashimatsushima City. There are many places of interest, including Saga Creek, one of Japan’s three most scenic rivers, and Otakamori and Soukan, both known for their spectacular views. Compared to the Matsushima Town side where the sightseeing boat pier and Zuiganji Temple are located, fewer people visit the area. However, there are many beautiful sights that can only be seen here, making it an excellent sightseeing spot. If you want to fully enjoy Matsushima, one of the three most scenic spots in Japan, you should not miss Oku-Matsushima.
