Care to visit a shrine with a deep connection to Japan’s history? ⛩🏯
The Iwashimizu Hachimangu shrine is nestled in the lush forests atop the Otokoyama mountain. Located away from the hustle and bustle of tourists in Kyoto city, you can expect a nice, serene visit to this shrine. Take a short cable car ride up the mountain to get a nice scenic view of Yawata city below. Or, hike up the mountain’s winding stairs if you’re feeling particularly full of energy.
Once on the shrine’s grounds, you’ll find a wealth of Japanese history and beauty. Check out the path of stone lanterns. Drop a coin at the prayer rock. Take a tour of the interior of the shrine itself. There’s so much to see and do!
You could even visit their memorial to…Thomas Edison? Yes, there really is one here.
What a great photo, @imperial_kyoto! Thanks!
