Say hello to Ezo momonga, a flying squirrel unique to Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido.

These cute critters are mainly nocturnal but you can join a wildlife spotting tour to capture a glimpse of them at nightfall or before dawn.

Fun fact: Ezo momonga are so beloved in Hokkaido, they feature on Sapporo’s rechargeable transport card, Kitaca.
