Japanese alternative idol group Tokyo Psychopath on the street in Harajuku after dark.
We got the opportunity to work with @VogueJapan on a project documenting the newest generation of personalities in the Harajuku street fashion scene. We spent about a month shooting street style for Vogue, in the same way that we have been shooting for 15 years. This month, Vogue Japan published eight pages of those street snaps in their print magazine, along with short interviews with some of the people currently active in the Harajuku street fashion scene. We want to thank @VogueJapan, @nananee_fashion, @artistphotojp, and all of the people who agreed to be street snapped for this project. Please check the magazine!
In this set of snaps shot for @VogueJapan, we met Japanese alternative idol group Tokyo Psychopath (@ldk_psychopath). All of the members were active in the Harajuku scene even before they joined the idol group.
On the left with neon hair is @gunso_psychopath wearing furry neon leg warmers, a patent mini skirt, neon jacket, fishnet shirt, and boots.
To her right in denim is @jyorgm_psychopath.jp wearing Donny Brook, Pinnap vintage, MYOB NYC, and Dr. Martens.
Next to her in a blue vintage jumpsuit is @kaosu_psychopath – her look includes items by Justin Davis and Vivienne Westwood.
On the far right with lots of tattoos is @hakua_psychopath wearing H&M, Justin Davis, and Dr. Martens. Hakua Gozen recently posted (in English and Japanese) about her experiences growing up as a lesbian in rural Japan. If you haven’t read her statement yet, we highly recommend you go read it on her Instagram @hakua_psychopath, as her story is inspirational and in some ways universal.
Thank you again to @VogueJapan for showing the world what Harajuku street style looks like in 2022.
