Watching over a quaint castle town, Gujo Hachiman Castle in Gifu Prefecture is steeped in a long and storied history. As Japan’s oldest wooden reconstructed castle, you can almost feel the history and stories of feudal lords as you wander through the castle’s hallways. Covered in a blanket of snow and cloaked in softly rolling morning mists, a climb to the top will have your head all the way up in the clouds. 🏯

Please note: there is no viewing platform or parking area where this picture is taken, and the mountain road is narrow with poor visibility in winter. Please don’t stop or park along the road if visiting the area as it can cause accidents and be conscious of your safety and observe road rules.
