🇺🇦 LEARN MORE ABOUT UKRAINE:
🌎 TOURS BY LOCALS:

When I got the opportunity to travel to Ukraine in May of 2021, I jumped at the chance! Come with me as I fly Turkish Airlines Business Class to Ukraine, my 83rd country!

My trip kicked off where all of my trips begin, Miami International Airport. This is the deepest and furthest east I’ve ever traveled in Europe, and I’d have 11 full days on the ground. I’d be doing it all in partnership with Tours By Locals, who would provide me with a guide in each of the three cities I’d be visiting: Kyiv, Lviv, and Odessa.

👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH:

In order to get to Kyiv, I’d have to connect through Istanbul.

Because I was in Business Class, I had a 25-inch flatscreen TV in my pod, as well as a flat lay bed. They also serve delicious Turkish food and wine. Their wine menu is massive and contains wines from Turkey, France, and more.

For the food, I went with the grilled salmon with grilled zucchini, celeriac mousseline lemon butter, and spicy red pepper paste with walnut. They also have a breakfast menu and a movie bar menu that includes chips, dried fruit, nuts, chocolate, and more.

My appetizer was the grilled chicken, orzo salad, two pastes, and a piece of chocolate cake. I enjoyed some Cappadocia wine as well.

The chicken was fantastic and I loved the fresh orzo salad. The red pepper paste was spicy and contained crunchy walnuts. I loved it with the chicken!

The other paste was eggplant and also paired extremely well with the chicken. The smooth texture and fresh flavor blew my mind. And the wine was nice and dry!

The salmon with mashed potatoes was also really flavorful and the chocolate cake was a nice way to end my meal. Then, I finished watching X-Men: Dark Phoenix and got some sleep!

During breakfast, we were flying over the Adriatic Sea. I started with fruit salad, yogurt, cold cuts, and cheese. I loved the fresh fruit and my black coffee.

The yogurt was also really good. The best thing about Turkish Airlines’ Business Class is that in your pod, you feel like you’re at home! It’s very luxurious and comfortable, and the food is excellent!

After 11 hours, we arrived in Istanbul. I’d be there for about three hours and then hop a two-hour flight to Kyiv. I much preferred the 16-hour flight to Ukraine to the 24 hours it takes to get to India.

IST Airport is one of my favorite airports in the world. They have a huge duty-free area, luxury shops, and a hotel inside the airport.

In the Turkish Airlines Business Class lounge, they have lots of food stations and restaurants. I got a spicy wheat salad, tzatziki, spicy peppers, and kofta (minced beef). I loved the Ottoman influence in the food!

The food in Turkey will blow your mind. It’s so fresh and tasty, and the flavors are unreal. The tzatziki and meat together are amazing, and the peppers add a nice kick!

Then, I got some pide, which is a Turkish flatbread similar to pizza. They can be topped with cheese and vegetables, meat, and more. The chicken-and-cheese one was to die for!

After three hours, I boarded my 90-minute flight, enjoyed some champagne. I ordered lamb chops, a salad, cheese, hummus, and rice pudding for lunch. I also got a fruity Cappadocia wine.

I loved the salad and fluffy bread, and the hummus and wine were stellar. The lamb chops were meaty, juicy, and fatty. The mashed potatoes and greens on the side were also fantastic.

The rice pudding was the perfect dessert and reminded me of flan or crème brulee. It was sweet and decadent and super tasty!

Then, we landed in Ukraine! I couldn’t wait to start exploring!
