Today I’ll show you about Gunma prefecture. Gunma has a lot of awesome places such as Oze,Tomioka Silk Mill,and 3 main Onsen(Kusatsu,Shima,and Ikaho). Today,let’s learn about these places with me.
1.Oze: the biggest high moor in Japan .About 8 square kilometres in size, the marshland ihas various species of plants, such as mizubasyo(white skunk cabbage)and Nikko-kisuge(yellow alpine lilies).If you wanna enjoy rare plants,visit Oze.
2.Japan’s industrial progress in Meiji era: In 1872,the government built a modern model silk reeling factory in Tomioka city.Thanks to it, our country succeeded in mass production on row-silk and thus it developed. The buildings were registered as a cultural site of world heritage.
Gunma is known for its Onsen hot springs,especially 3 kinds of them,Kusatsu, Shima, and Ikaho is popular.From now,let’s learn about these three hot springs.
1st…Kusatsu hot spring. This is well known for its onsen-cure.Its strong acid was believed to trat all diseases,then some patients of Hansen’s disease,Syphilis,or skin diseases used to visit this hot spring. Moreover,it was believed that the Kusatsu can treat love sickness. If you are not feeling well,go and enjoy Kusatsu Onsen.
2nd…Shima Onsen is awesome.Although Kusatsu onsen is great,its strong acidity can sometimes cause rough skin. In order to cure it, Shima onsen was used. If your skin is sensitive,visit Shima Onsen instead of Kusatsu.
3rd…Ikaho Onsen. The hot spring has been loved by many celebrities,especially writers including Natsume Soseki. Besides,the onsen had a vacation home for the imperial family.You’ll learn a variety of history there.
