Traveling to visit a brewery and learn about Japanese sakes that you can then savor and share with friends is a unique experience that is only made more exhilarating when set in the breathtaking landscape of Snow Country!
About SAKE-TION:
The SAKE-TION short movie was put together by Minamiuonuma City to highlight the sightseeing appeals of the prosperous local sake industry. The 3 breweries in Minamiuonuma and 2 breweries of neighboring Uonuma City have all been operating in this region for over 100 years, and in recent years have opened new facilities to educate visitors about Japanese sake and offer brewery tours among other sake-themed activities.
“SAKE-TION” (“Sake” + “Vacation”) is a term thought up by the creative team and videographer to capture this idea of an excursion centered on appreciating these premium Japanese rice wines.

About Local Sake Brewing:
Minamiuonuma and Uonuma City in southern Niigata Prefecture are known throughout Japan for their extraordinary winter climate characterized by abundant snowfall. While the harsh winter climate may seem burdensome at times, it conversely serves as the perfect conditions for brewing refined Japanese sakes.
Meticulously cultivated precious sake rice and smooth-tasting mountain spring water are masterfully transformed by Echigo breweries into premium sake with a crisp, clean and smooth signature taste. The innate sense of patience and determination cultivated through enduring the winters of this region have helped advance the sake brewing industry of Niigata and this Japanese sake has long been a key component of the regional culture of Snow Country.
