Today, Fukuoka Prefecture joins six other prefectures in a state of emergency as a strategy to control the spread of the new coronavirus. Unnecessary outings, especially after 8 pm, are discouraged. Restaurants and bars are asked to stop serving alcohol from 7 pm and close at 8 pm, events will have a limit on the number of attendees, and companies are requested to implement teleworking for 70% of their employees. With that in mind, I’ve decided to livestream today from the commercial center of Fukuoka, JR Hakata Station. Of course, I’ll be wearing a mask and maintaining social distance from others. I hope this real-time view from Fukuoka’s streets will be of interest to those curious about the situation in Fukuoka.

NOTE: Fast forward to around 1hr 14 min to see a sunset view from atop Hakata Station!

FAQ

Who are you?
Nick Szasz, a Canadian who has lived in Japan for 34 years. Thirty years in Fukuoka, three in Tokyo and one in Osaka. I’m the founder and publisher of Fukuoka Now magazine, a monthly printed bilingual freely distributed magazine about Fukuoka and Kyushu for international residents and visitors from overseas. Fukuoka Now magazine: and Fukuoka Now website

Why are you doing this?
After twenty consecutive years of publishing a printed magazine about Fukuoka I decided to branch out into video. I love Kyushu, walking and cameras, so this seems like a fun project. Additionally, Fukuoka and Kyushu still get less exposure overseas and I hope that I can, even in this small way, bring the world to Kyushu. So sit back, relax, and let me do the walking and talking.

What are your plans for Kyushu Live?
There will be a period of trial and error. My first goal is to do about 20 walks in different parts of Fukuoka City and as soon as possible and then expand to other areas of Kyushu pending audience reaction and support via YouTube and Patreon (hint! hint!).

Kyushu Live
PATREON(ファンがクリエイターを直接支援できるサービス)でも登録しているので応援してね!

How can the audience interact?
Please comment or send chat messages on YouTube, and I will open other channels soon. I’d love to hear your feedback and requests for places to go and things to do. For now, please SUBSCRIBE to this channel and comment below. Thanks!
