I had a chance to visit Kyushu for work in October 2020, and took that opportunity to explore Mt. Aso – the largest volcano and caldera in Japan. (It’s 2020- so going to local restaurants, etc. was out.) Mt. Aso is part of the Aso Kuju National Park, and is a large area with 5 main summits – Nakadake, Takadake, Nekodake, Mt. Eboshi, and Mt. Kishima. I went to 4/5 – all of them except for Mt. Eboshi. But in this video I just go to Nakadake and Takadake. (And show you the interestingly shaped Nekodake via drone.) The trail I took in this video was the Sunasenri trail- which I highly recommend. It’s open to hiking even when the main crater area is closed because of excessive poisonous gases.
