Travel To the World’s Second-Highest Plateau Deosai. Welcome to Tarar Support. I am traveling in Pakistan by road. In this video, the world’s second-highest plateaus Deosai, Satpara Lake, and Shausar Lake. I am traveling along the Satpara Lake It is a natural lake that supplies fresh water to Skardu Valley. Its elevation is 2636 meters above sea level and is spread about 2.5 sq Km. My destination is Deosai National Park at an elevation of 4114 Meters above sea level. there is not a paved road. the average speed is 10 Km Per Hour. My Motorbike is not suitable for this type of travel. I have to take a lift. Jeep is the best option to explore the Deosai. The Deosai is a high-altitude alpine plain and national park in the Northern Pakistan region of Gilgit Baltistan. Deosai Means The land of Giants. Deosai Plains are situated at an average elevation of 13,497 ft above sea level and considered as the second highest plateaus in the world after Changtang Tibetan Plateau. It remains covered with snow for 8 months. Its temperature is about a minimum minus 10 degrees celsius in January and maxes 25 degrees celsius in summer. The Deosai National Park is located between Kharmang, Astore, and Skardu. The park protects an area of 843 square kilometers. It is well known for its rich flora and fauna of the Karakoram-West Tibetan Plateau alpine steppe eco-region. In spring, it is covered by sweeps of wildflowers and a wide variety of butterflies. Deosai is 30 km from Skardu city, which is the shortest route to visit Deosai. Another route is from Astore valley via Chilim. The area was designated as Deosai National Park by the Government of Pakistan in 1993 with the primary objective of protection and conservation of the Himalayan Brown Bear unique to this part of the world. The Himalayan brown bear is a critically endangered species in some of its range and the key-stone species of Deosai National Park. The populations in Pakistan are slow reproducing, small, and declining because of habitat loss, fragmentation, poaching, and bear-baiting. The park is part of the Conservation International Himalayan Biodiversity Hotspot and contains a rich variety of species. I am tired and want to leave Gilgit Baltistan before Monsoon rainy Season otherwise wanted to see the Brown bear. The plateau is highly significant in terms of watershed value. Three important river systems originate from Deosai National Park namely; Shatung, Bara Pani, and Kala Pani which form the Shigar River, an important tributary of the Indus River. Sheosar Lake is also a beautiful attraction in Deosai.
