Ouchi, a village once existed on the border of Ishikawa & Fukui prefecture in Japan, is a place that played an important role as a checkpoint of each feudal domain during Edo period, and was flourished as a village of woodworker during Taisho and Showa period.

Inscription on the Monument
Nobody wanted to leave Ouchi. When we villagers of Ouchi stand here, certainly hear grief of our ancestor. After the war, small villages have vanished one by one, as swept away by the country who forgot to the importance of culture, aimed for high economic growth, rapidly sought for civilisation.
Ouchi is just one of those villages. We built this monument here now for our undesire to leave, and for hoping somebody moving in someday.
