Takasakiyama is an amazing reserve of over 500 monkeys (macaques) in Oita Prefecture, Japan. It’s about 10 minutes by bus from Beppu Station, and if you want to see a large aquarium next to it, get the “Monkey Marine Ticket” for 2,200 yen at the Beppu Station tourist info office. Technically the park is in Oita City, but it’s just so close when you visit Beppu.
There are several monkey parks in Japan; perhaps the Iwatayama Monkey Park in Kyoto is more famous since Kyoto is so big, but Takasakiyama is by far better.
