Tsutenkaku is one of the well-known landmark of Shinsekai, Osaka. With total height of 103m, it is visible almost everywhere within Naniwa-ku district. The current tower is a rebuild version with the first one burned down prior to the 1945 World War 2. The first design was patterned after the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe, built in 1912 within the vicinity of an amusement park called Luna Park. After the war ended, the public lobbied for the tower to be rebuilt. On the fifth floor of the observation deck is enshrined Billiken or the God of Happiness, with the motto “things as they ought to be”. Billiken was actually a popular American charm doll that came to Japan in 1910, was enshrined in Luna Park when it opened.
