While you are likely familiar with maneki-neko (aka “beckoning cat”), what about daruma? 🤔 These wishing dolls embody the popular Japanese proverb: Nanakorobi yaoki, which means “fall down seven times, stand up eight” people use them to make a wish or to set a goal. Once you make your wish, paint in one eye. When you’ve achieved your dream, paint in the other eye. You’re likely to come across the dolls on the shelves of souvenir stores during your travels! 📷 Photos amazingly captured by @yuma1983 at Katsuoji Temple in Mino city just north of Osaka. #VisitJapanAU #Culture
