Coming of Age Day was celebrated across Japan today, the first “seijin no hi” of the new decade and the new imperial era. It marks the passing into adulthood for those whose 20th birthday falls between April 2 of the previous year and April 1 of the current year. While venues and modes of celebration vary, it often involves getting dressed in furisode (a style of kimono with long sleeves) for women and hakuma for men. It usually starts with a formal ceremony and ends with parties and drinking. Our reporters visited gathering of young adults at the Imperial Hotel and near Kawasaki and Kinshicho. 📸: Ryusei Takahashi @ryuseitakahashi217, Tomohiro Osaki and Chisato Tanaka
