Harajuku Station, a Western-style wooden train stop built almost 100 years ago, is scheduled to be torn down and rebuilt in 2020. The current structure does not meet fire safety codes, and officials say the station wasn’t made to handle the millions of visitors that pass through it every year. JR East is still debating whether or not to preserve certain elements of the station, as some argue it has become an iconic location in Tokyo. 📸: Kazuaki Nagata; Courtesy of Railway Museum; Courtesy of JR East
