TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan has secured an unprecedented presence at the 2025 Osaka Kansai Expo, which launched earlier this month on April 13, by showcasing its technological prowess through a private sector pavilion called “TECH WORLD.” This arrangement represents a diplomatic breakthrough, according to Lin Yu-hui (林郁慧), deputy secretary-general of the Taiwan-Japan Relations Association, who noted at a Tuesday (April 29) briefing that Japan’s facilitation of Taiwan’s participation reflects the robust relationship between the two East Asian democracies.

During a press conference hosted by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部), Lin elaborated that the “TECH WORLD” pavilion delivers an immersive multisensory experience designed to highlight Taiwan’s cultural and technological soft power on the international stage. Complementing this physical presence, MOFA has initiated a broader global outreach program called “Finding Taiwan,” which encourages international participants to share visual narratives that capture Taiwan’s dynamic cultural landscape and distinctive national character.

The “TECH WORLD” pavilion has been jointly developed by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), Taiwan’s primary trade promotion organization, and Tamayama Digital Tech Co (玉山數位科技株式會社). According to Lin, this exhibition platform serves both cultural and commercial objectives, potentially expanding Taiwan’s international business connections and market access. The pavilion has already demonstrated considerable appeal, attracting approximately 40,000 visitors during its preliminary trial operation phase since the expo opened two weeks ago. ★
