29th April 2025 – (Tokyo) A female Ukrainian visitor in Japan discovered an unfamiliar man concealed beneath her hotel bed and promptly contacted the local authorities. The Ukrainian tourist named “Natalie” from abroad recounted a bizarre encounter at a Tokyo hotel in Japan via social media on the 25th.
Natalie shared in a video on social platforms that she had perceived Japan to be a secure destination, hence meticulously planning her trip and securing accommodation through a Tokyo hotel chain via an online booking platform.
The initial day proceeded without incident. However, an unsettling occurrence unfolded the following day upon Natalie’s return to the hotel around 7:30 p.m. after a sightseeing excursion.
As Natalie settled down on her bed, she detected an unusual odour. Initially attributing it to her hair or bed linens, she eventually traced the source of the scent to beneath the bed. Peering underneath, she made eye contact with an Asian man. This individual had illicitly entered Natalie’s room and was concealed beneath the bed.
Upon noticing the intruder, Natalie let out a shriek and leapt up, prompting the man to emerge from his hiding place, glance at Natalie for a brief moment, and swiftly flee. Overwhelmed with anxiety, Natalie felt as though her life was in jeopardy.
Swiftly seeking assistance from the hotel, Natalie enlisted the staff’s aid in summoning the police. A portable charger and USB cable were discovered beneath Natalie’s bed by the authorities. Perturbed, Natalie questioned the hotel staff on how such an incident could occur, to which the hotel offered no satisfactory response.
The hotel informed Natalie that law enforcement was encountering difficulties apprehending the intruder due to the absence of CCTV surveillance outside her room. Consequently, Natalie opted to relocate to an alternative hotel and requested a refund of her accommodation expenses, which the hotel promptly reimbursed in full.
Nonetheless, Natalie expressed discontent with the hotel’s handling of the situation. She noted the hotel’s passive approach in updating her on the incident’s aftermath. Natalie, plagued by anxiety for the remainder of her journey, sought $1,600 in compensation for mental distress. Regrettably, the hotel declined, citing its policy.
Natalie advised solo travellers to diligently inspect their lodgings, emphasising the importance of vigilance. Some online viewers of Natalie’s video speculated that the absence of CCTV near her hotel room suggested possible involvement of a hotel employee, positing that staff access cards could have facilitated the intrusion and that the hotel might be attempting to conceal the incident.
