The Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO) reports that Kyoto City has been selected to host the 18th World Congress on Inflammation 2028.

Japan’s academic achievements and Kyoto’s rich tourism offerings were two of the major reasons why the city was chosen.

In collaboration with the Kyoto Convention & Visitors Bureau (KCB), JNTO supported the bid under a ‘Team Japan’ structure led by Dr Hiroshi Takayanagi, general chair of the WCI2028.

Kyoto City is the capital of Kyoto Prefecture on Japan’s largest and most populous island – Honshu. It is considered by many to be the cultural capital of Japan, and was for thousands of years Japan’s official capital, before Tokyo surpassed it in 1869.

The World Congress on Inflammation aims to advance research and education on inflammation and regeneration. The event is held every two years, and is organised in collaboration with the Japanese Society of Inflammation and Regeneration. Japan is a pioneer in the field of inflammation research. The last time the WCI was held in Japan was 2009 in Tokyo.
