OSAKA — Some 245,000 households temporarily lost power in Osaka Prefecture from around 4 a.m. on Aug. 15, apparently due to an underground electrical line failure, according to Kansai Transmission and Distribution Inc.
The power cut occurred in the cities of Osaka and Moriguchi. Services were fully restored by 9 a.m.
The company said it was possible that a problem with an underground power line near Osaka’s Joto Ward had been detected by nearby transformer stations, causing widespread power outages. It is continuing investigations to identify the faulty transmission line.
The power outage prompted Keihan Electric Railway Co. to temporarily suspend operations on the Keihan Main Line between Yodoyabashi and Kyobashi stations and the entire Nakanoshima Line from the first train of the day, affecting about 30,000 people. It also caused delays and cancellations on West Japan Railway Co.’s train lines including the Osaka Loop Line, affecting about 25,000 people.
