The Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau held the first Tokyo Sustainable MICE Showcase on December 17, 2024, at the Akasaka Intercity Conference Center. The event showcased sustainable case studies, innovative solutions, and networking opportunities for business event professionals.

The Tokyo Sustainable MICE Showcase took place in December 2024 in the unique setting of the Historic Akasaka Intercity Conference Center, where over 50 distinguished representatives from academia and the business sector gathered. The showcase featured a presentation by Jacob Kjeldgaard of Copenhagen Legacy Lab on “Broad Value Tourism,” highlighting sustainable initiatives in Copenhagen, followed by a panel discussion on carbon neutrality and the circular economy in Japan. During the exhibition, participants explored sustainable solutions at various booths, sampled ASC-certified seafood and vegan food options sourced locally, and enjoyed a calligraphy performance by Teikyo University’s calligraphy club.

Advancing Sustainable Event Management

The showcase introduced key initiatives focused on policy formation, circular economy, carbon neutrality, diversity, and community engagement. Measures included pre-event surveys to minimize food waste, recycling construction materials and event materials distribution in digital form, and selecting a carbon-neutral venue. Additionally, attendees were encouraged to use public transport, and a carbon footprint calculator was employed to offset emissions through carbon credits. The Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau will continue to support event organizers in hosting sustainable events and sharing best practices through ongoing case studies.
