According to the press release, Takahata Isao Exhibition: The Man Who Planted Japanese Animation hopes to enable visitors to look back at the techniques and ideas that the late director cultivated in his pre-Studio Ghibli works, as well as his Studio Ghibli filmography.

The hosting of the exhibition this summer was inspired by two factors, one being that 2025 would have been the late director’s 90th birthday. Additionally, 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Pacific War, which had a large influence on Takahata. Given this background, there will be a A Grave of the Fireflies-focused exhibit.

Studio Ghibli lent its cooperation in regards to the planning of the exhibition.
