The Best Way to Spend a Weekend at Mount Fuji, Japan – Travel Guide

For the fourth part of our Japan series we changed scenery from the world’s biggest megacity to one of the world’s most iconic mountains. Mount Fuji.
Since there are many things to do, we planned to spend a “long” weekend here. We arrived on friday and went for a walk around the closer half of the Kawaguchi Lake. Immediately as we reached the park at the town’s end we were greeted by beautiful views all around us. We crossed the bridge to find what became our favourite viewpoint in the area – Ubuyagasaki shrine. Here you can see Mount Fuji just in front of you with the lake in the foreground. After walking through some pretty parks at the northern side of the lake, we arrived to Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum, which was a surprisingly nice place to visit and we were able to spend some time here.

The second day, we took a local bus to see a traditional japanese village Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato Nenba, which now serves as an open-air museum. Many people are discouraged from coming here, because it’s further away from all the popular attractions, but for us it was one of the highlights and we would absolutelly recommend it. After that we went back to Kawaguchiko and explored the southern side of the lake, starting at Fujiomurosengen shrine and then taking a walk along the lake’s shore all the way back to the town, where we stayed.

Finally, the last day the sky cleared up and we were able to catch some amazing views of Mount Fuji. As we only had the morning to enjoy it, we went back to Ubuyagasaki shrine, where we stayed about an hour just to soak in the views.

At the end, we took a bus to Mishima, where we hop on the good old bullet train, Shinkansen, that would take us to Kyoto. And that’s where we will meet you next time.
