The Twisted Tree is a series of quests in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This quest is required to complete the quest “Inside Help” and it requires you to hunt down a corrupt family who has been terrorizing the people of Kyoto. In this IGN walkthrough guide, we will tell you everything you need to know to complete these quests, including target locations and possible outcomes.
Rewards
5000 XP Multiple rewards for each member you assassinate
After unlocking this quest, new objectives will appear on the objectives board, each one corresponding to a Twisted Tree member. You’ll have their names, but not their appearances or exact locations.
To find the members, you’ll need to gather intel by completing a series of optional sub-quests. Below, you’ll find a list of all optional quests and how to complete them.

Approach him to talk. He’ll reveal that the Twisted Tree is a corrupt family. This information will update the Twisted Tree objective board to add the missing members.
During this cutscene, you’ll also have a dialogue option:
Regardless of which one you choose, he will tell you that you should talk to a family guard who might have more information.

Talk to the merchant in Kyoto
He is in eastern Kyoto, Yamashiro He can be found east of Honnoji Temple He was seen near a sake crate cart
This guard can be found in a non-hostile area in Kyoto. You’ll find his exact location on the map shown below.
When you get there, you’ll find the guard dead, next to a Sake crate cart.
Even though the guard is dead, you can loot his body to collect intel on the Twisted Tree. Doing so will reveal a crucial piece of information: if the head of the Twisted Tree is dead, the siblings will show themselves.
Show Spoilers With the information you have so far you can dispatch a scout to Kyoto and find the location of Takahashi Inoshichi, the head of this clan.
If you kill him right away the next two optional quests will be automatically completed. However, doing this will automatically spare two siblings, Takahashi Goro and Takahashi Ichi-Hime. While there are no consequences to sparing them, you won’t get all quest rewards for killing them.
For this walkthrough, we will continue explaining how to complete the other subquest as well as how to find each sibling.
After looting the dead guard’s body, you’ll get a new objective: to listen in on the guards who might spill some information on the Twisted Tree.

How to find Takahashi ShiroRewards
Clues
Letter from Shiro’s body – quest Item Engraving – Armor piercing on Consecutive Kills The Untamable one – Uncommon Katana for Naoe 2 mastery points 2000 XP He is in central Kyoto, Yamashiro He is located in Nijo Palace He will avenge his father’s death
Shiro is inside Nijo Palace, a hostile location in Kyoto.
He is near the Nijo Tenshu. The easiest way to find him is to fast-travel to the Nijo Tenshu synchronizing point.
and to drop down to the wall shown below, the one with an archer.
Quickly deal with the archer by striking him repeatedly with fast or heavy attacks. This will alert nearby enemies but that’s exactly what we want because Takahashi Shiro will come up to fight you.
Defeating Shiro
Shiro is a big enemy who will strike using two unstoppable attacks in a row. Dodge those at the right time to leave him vulnerable and strike back.
Be careful where you dodge, you’ll be fighting in a very narrow area and there’s a chance you might fall down to the water that’s surrounding the castle. If you want, you can use the ladder there to bring the fight to the lower level.
However, this is a hostile area so if you go down there’s a chance more enemies will arrive and overwhelm you.
The Power Dash ability is also super useful to leave him vulnerable. If there are other enemies nearby, kill them to replenish your adrenaline tokens so you can keep performing ability attacks.
After defeating Shiro, you can move on to the next sibling.

Approach Taro slowly and press the assassinate button. This won’t silently assassinate him but at least you’ll deal the first blow.
Taro is smaller than Shiro but he is still a formidable foe. He can block your attacks and strike back using an unstoppable attack. When you see the red glow in his weapon, dodge at the right time to leave him vulnerable. Then strike back.
He can also perform an attack that you can parry. When you see the white circle on his weapon press the parry button to avoid getting hurt.
Use the Power Dash ability to drain his health bar faster. However, since there are no enemies nearby you won’t be able to farm those to replenish your adrenaline tokens faster.
After defeating Taro, move on to Shiburo. He is closest to Taro’s position.

Ichi-hime is in Umenomiya Taisha Shrine, a non-hostile area in Kyoto. You can see her location marked on the map below.
When you get there, you’ll find her outside near some trees.
If you approach her and talk to her, you’ll be given the option to kill or spare her. Sparing her will still work towards completing this mission, but you won’t receive any rewards.
If you choose to fight, get close and press the Assassinate button to deal the first blow and leave her weaker.
Ichi-hime has two attacks, she can strike with a Flurry Attack where she swings her sword three times in a row. These attacks can be parried, so when you see the blue light on her weapon, be ready to quickly parry three times, then you’ll have a small window to strike back.
Sometimes she performs one attack using her sword. You’ll know she is about to perform this one because a white circle appears on her weapon. These are the ones you should try to parry at the right time to leave her vulnerable.
Finally, she can perform two unstoppable attacks, one with her sword and the other with a kicking attack. With these ones make sure to dodge out of the way as soon as you see the red glow to avoid getting hurt.

Goro is near the Shokokuji Pagoda fast travel point, his exact location is marked on the map below.
When you get there, you’ll find him outside a building.
Unlike his siblings, Goro wasn’t trained in the art of combat so all you have to do to kill him is approach and press the brutally assassinate button.
You could also spare him by looking at him and selecting that option.
How to Find Takahashi InoshichiRewards
Clues
2000 XP Kitsune’s Trickery – Legendary Amulet 2 Mastery Points Adrenaline on Afflicted Enemies – Engraving Damage after Headshot – Engraving Raijins’s Refusal – Uncommon Teppo for Yasuke Daydreamer’s Grip -Uncommon Bow for Yasuke Letter from Inoshichi’s body – Quest item 945 Mon He is in southern Kyoto, Yamashiro The garden has a secret entrance
Inoshichi is in a hostile area in Kyoto. While stealth is where Naoe shines, we recommend you approach this target with a stealthy strategy.
Inoshichi is inside the central house in this area, sure, you could go inside straight away and kill him but as soon as the fight starts all the nearby guards will come rushing to defend him and overwhelm you. Instead of doing that, we recommend you enter through the secret entrance and kill some of the guards outside, then go inside and assassinate Inoshichi.
To do that, first, go to the location marked on the map below.
Then, go to the area shown below.
There, you’ll see a secret entrance on one of the walls.
Crouch to get in, and look to your right. There you’ll see two archers behind the crates shown below.
Kill them quickly using light or heavy attacks. This will attract the attention of two NPCs that are outside the doors to the central house, if you hide to get out of their sight, you won’t raise any alarms.
Stay hidden and whistle using the D-pad down button to attract the attention of nearby enemies, this will allow you to kill them away from other enemies’ sight.
Now move and kill the two guards by this area’s entrance, the ones shown below.
There are a couple more guards in this area, but you can leave them alone. Now, go inside the structure in the center.
and open the doors to find Inoshichi praying on the floor. Approach him and press the assassinate button to deal the first blow.
During this fight, you have to keep an eye out for his unstoppable attacks. He has two: one where he performs an unstoppable kick and another one where he uses his sword. With both of these you have to dodge to avoid getting hurt.
Since you killed the guards outside before finding Inoshichi, it’s safe to lure the enemy outside the house, this will give you more room to dodge or parry attacks.
Inoshichi can also attack with a Flurry Attack where he performs three strikes in a row using his sword, when you see the blue light appear around his weapon, get ready to parry three times, this should leave him vulnerable.
When you see that his health bar is low enough, perform the Power Dash ability to finish him off.
Should you spare or kill the two youngest siblings?
During this quest, you’ll have the option to kill or spare Takahashi Ichi-hime and Takahashi Goro. While the Inside Help Quest is completed either way, the biggest difference is that you won’t get rewards for sparing them.
However, you will get the same Teppo and engraving (given to you by killing Goro) and bow and engraving (given to you by killing Inoshichi) when you kill Inoshichi, just one level lower than the ones you would get by killing the two siblings, so really all you’re missing by sparing them is some XP and mon.
After dealing with all Twisted Tree members the quest will end. You can now return to Ujimasa to complete the quest Inside Help.
