  1. Some great suggestions here for my forthcoming trip! I wandered Sangenjaya last time (Ghibli Cafe, Gorilla – didn't know there was a viewing tower I'll have to check it out)

  2. I had to laugh that Jūjō was the first place mentioned, since that area has been popping up in my xTwitter feed a lot lately due to the opening of Pony Pizza-TOKYO near the station.
Sugamo is one of the places on my always-visit list when I'm in Tokyo. Easy to get, easy to explore, greet street food, and great packaged food like senbei and candies.
Went to Kita Senju for the first time last trip, and explored the very old-fashioned winding alleys with old shops there.

  3. Another cool place along the Sakura Tramway is Asukayama Park 飛鳥山公園. It has a very pretty view to do Train Spotting from and a unique rail/elevator called Asuka Park Rail Summit Station
    あすかパークレール飛鳥山山頂駅

The Shinkansen views in the trees gave such a beautiful vibe.

  4. I haven't been to most of these areas to just walk around for a look see. The one I was in, I was on a mission, had something to get done, and then get to meeting in another part of Tokyo. You keep adding to my list, which is both good and bad. Good, more things to see and do. Bad, because the list isn't getting shorter.

  5. Nice spots but you left out book town Jimbocho is amazing if you like books or magazines from just about every era plus really great coffee shops highly recommend. Also good is Nakano great mall and food court as well as coffee shops. Good thing most tourist will never go to these places

  6. love this one! ill try some of this spots in October! cheers, also old tokyo tanaka ginza is really beautiful and no so touristic

  7. Thanks for the tips! Less than a week until I fly to Japan, and I'll see if I can make it to one or two of these at the end of my trip where I have 3 days in Tokyo.

  8. I went to Gotokuji temple on my first day in Japan and rode the cat tram. It was so cool, and there are SO many lucky cats.

  9. Thanks. Sugamo , Sangenjaya are quite popular these days especially sangenjaya. The train to cat temple is also quite packed given locals really do use it so if you try it during peak time , you will find it quite crowded! Sugamo area can also be packed especially during sakura as there are two nice sakura garden nearby that one can pair it with.

Agree with the other 3, but then again Tokyo has too many of these. Even oshiage (skytree) is underrated in that the shotegai there isn't visited by tourist as tourist focus is on skytree end! Tourist just need to move 200to 400m from main spot and they will find a lot of interesting spots!

  10. Great suggestions for a more authentic traditional experience of Tokyo 👍

Coincidentally, I've got 2 of these spots already pinned to visit on my upcoming May trip.

Firstly, Zoshigaya with its Zelkova tree-lined street, with a planned visit to Zōshigaya Old Missionary Museum (Old McCaleb House) close-by.

Secondly, Jujo. There's a one-man-band Bangladeshi/Japanese Izakaya in Jujo Ginza that was featured on NHK-World that locals rave about, apparently extremely good food and drink prices.

ahhhh wonderful Sugamo ❤️ not just a great place to visit, but also a great place to stay in Tokyo, and it's on the Yamanote line !
The Arakawa Toden Line (Sakura Tram) at the end of Jizo Dori Shopping Street is a hidden gem in itself with so many things to experience along the route, well worth exploring.
Sugamo has so much to offer with the Jizo Dori Shopping Street, Sakura Tram, Rikugien Gardens, Otsuka next door, cheap shopping and restaurants, plus a Railway station and a Subway station.
    Ichiban Sugamo desu – #1 😉🐒

  11. I love that you put the train lines (and colour) to help us find our way! Thank you for sharing these guides, WE NEED MORE ☺️

  12. I hadn't planned on spending much time in Tokyo on my next trip to Japan, since I thought I'd seen just about everything there was to see, but your video(es) have convinced me there's so much more I need to visit. Thanks!

  13. I did a little urban exploration of Sangenjaya the previous trip. This area was used in Persona 5 as the home base of the protagonist. I'll probably consider exploring there again.
