Why Miyajima is the BEST day trip from Hiroshima in Japan (4K)
This video is a tour around Miyajima, an island in Japan showcasing what’s to offer, including deer, shopping, shrines, Mt Misen, ropeway and it’s famous floating torii gate.
Miyajima is an island under an hour from Hiroshima by train to Miyajimaguchi Station, followed by a 3 minute walk to the ferry terminal. You can travel by ferry costing just ¥400 return (¥200 single fare) taking only 10 minutes. The island is most famous for its floating torii gate and known to be one of top 3 views in Japan. Like Nara, Miyajima is known for wild deer that have become accustomed to tourists. As soon as you get off the ferry, you’ll notice plenty wondering the shopping streets.
During your visit you can take one of three trails to ascend Mt Misen. These include the Momijidani Course, Daisho-in Course, and Omoto Course. The Daisho-in Course (named after the Daisho-in temple) is the least steep of the three trails, with views of the Seto Inland Sea and shrines plus temples along the way. The Momijidani Course is the shortest but steepest trail, mostly through the forest and lastly, the Omoto Course another trail that leads to the summit. This video focuses on the Daisho-in Course which is said to be the most scenic of the three and a look around Daisho-in temple.
If climbing is not your thing, you can take the Miyajima ropeway taking you either half way up (transferring at Kayatoni Station) or almost to the summit at Shishiiwa Station. A round trip costs ¥2000 (¥1100 single fare) operating between 9am-4.30pm. A free shuttle service operates every 20 minutes from Momijidoni Park that takes you directly to the ropeway station.
