Asahikawa in Winter & Autumn: Hokkaido’s Hidden Gem Through the Seasons

🌟 Asahikawa: Hokkaido’s Underrated Gem

Less famous than Sapporo, yet the second-largest city in Hokkaido, Asahikawa offers a quieter, more local atmosphere—just as fascinating, but without the crowds.

In this video, we explore Asahikawa in two different seasons:
❄️ Late winter – Snow still blankets the city, creating a magical, peaceful setting. We visited Hokkaido Gokoku Shrine, wandered through knee-deep snow, and even found a hidden sake museum! Plus, an incredible surprise: the Sounkyo Ice Festival, where illuminated ice sculptures transformed the night into a fairytale.
🍁 Autumn – The landscape changes completely, with golden leaves and crisp air. We rented a car to visit the surreal Shiragane Blue Pond and the breathtaking Shikisai no Oka flower hills. Back in the city, we enjoyed the cozy atmosphere of an izakaya, savoring delicious yakitori and Asahikawa’s famous ramen.

📍 So, is Asahikawa worth visiting?
If you love snowy adventures, winter is the perfect time. If you prefer road-tripping through stunning landscapes, autumn is ideal. Either way, Asahikawa is a city where you can slow down, take in the atmosphere, and enjoy a more authentic side of Hokkaido.
