Journey to Japan’s Snow Monkey Park – A Trek Worth Taking

We set out on an adventure to Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park in Nagano, and let me tell you—it was an experience.

The trip started early in Shinjuku, where we met our tour group after booking through Klook. A four-hour bus ride later, we arrived in the Nagano countryside, surrounded by snow-covered mountains and crisp, clean air. But the real challenge was just beginning.

After being dropped off, we geared up for a 45-minute to an hour-long trek through a snowy forest trail. The path was stunning—tall trees blanketed in snow, the occasional sound of rushing water from a hidden stream—but also slippery. If you’re making this trip, wear non-slip shoes. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself later.

Finally, after what felt like a small pilgrimage, we arrived. The steaming hot springs were filled with snow monkeys, completely at ease, soaking and grooming each other as if we weren’t even there. Watching them up close in their natural habitat was surreal—like stepping into a nature documentary.

Exhausting? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely. If you’re planning to visit, be ready for the long journey, dress for the weather, and embrace the adventure. Would you take on this trek for a glimpse of Japan’s famous hot spring-loving monkeys? Let’s talk in the comments.
