  1. @8:30 Looks to be Daoist as the character 廟 (miao) is used and not 寺 (si) which is associated with Buddhist temples. Taiwanese religion is quite syncretic and of course very colorful.

  2. Year 1 of the Republic of China was the year the new republic was established in Mainland China and has nothing to do with Taiwan or Taiwanese independence.

  3. Love the way you just walk into a building and explore, and then by pure accident found that awesome elevator! These are the things you dont find from a guidebook!

  4. What would you have done were you trapped in the elevator?
In other words, what is the Chinese version of calling 9-1-1?

  5. very modern, clean and nice city …I did not know that Taiwan is not recognized as an independent country and does not have a UN membership..perhaps something similar to turkish occupied north Cyprus… …also I was not familiar with Taiwan being named Republic of China and of course it is in a very delicate international relations (politically) ..the dispute between Taiwan and People's Republic of China…

  6. Cool man, looks like a decent city to poke around. It looks so much more calm than the streets of Vietnam or New York. It seems like an every day medium size US city, in quality and services that I would expect in essence. Thanks for showing us this area.

  7. 1911 was the end of the Emperor; first year of The Republic of China, which was the mainland ; capital in Peijing.

  8. Thee reason i havent used an elevator in 15 years..trapped in a small one for hours…i have low floor rooms so i can walk

  9. Wow your camera skills are improving! I live the intro!
ps how could that room only be $41.00 US per night? Amazing!

  10. 10:25 the sign reads "kotak derma" or donation box in the Malay language. I wonder if there are many Malay speaking people in Kaoshiung. 😂

  11. Hey, Gabriel. Long-time subscriber, here. I caught in this video that you're going to Okinawa next. Great choice! I just came back from there myself and wanted to share some tips of some places I really enjoyed. There are, of course, several islands that you can visit, but I went to Iheyajima and Tokashiki Islands.

On Iheyajima, I stayed at "Nishie Hotel", a friendly family-run guesthouse and the food was absolutely phenomenal! Definitely the best I had encountered in my several journeys around Japan. I think it's worth going to this island for the food alone! The chef/owner puts so much care into each dish. I Rented a car here for the equivalent of about $53 US/day and explored deserted beaches and interesting rock formations. I seemed to be the only western tourist on the whole island.

Tokashiki Island is more accessible from Naha, and therefore slightly more touristed, but still great for deserted beaches and hiking. I didn't rent a car here, but spent a few days hiking, instead.

Of course, there are several more island possibilities around Okinawa. I didn't know where to go, so I visited the tourist information center above the main bus terminal in Naha and asked for advice. A very helpful English-speaking staff member named Naomi had been to many of the islands, so she asked me what I was interested in and made these recommendations (among several others that I didn't have time to visit). I would seriously recommend going to this information center, asking for Naomi, and explaining what you're interested in seeing. Tell her Ross from Canada sent you!

Have a great time and keep up the good work!

  12. Kaohsiung is too confusing for people who don't speak Chinese. You are going to be stumbling around boring buildings like these unless you connect with someone living in Taiwan. Maybe take a bus to Taitung city to get a ferry over to Green Island (Lu Dao) and rent a scooter there like you do on the Greek islands.

  13. Welcome to Taiwan 🇹🇼 My favorite Country in The World.

Taiwan has its own Country, Capital, Currency, Culture, Passports, Government, Army , laws & so much more.

Welcome to Taiwan 🇹🇼 The Best Country I have ever lived in

  14. Great informative video. Kaohsiung looks very nice, quiet though for a big city. Was not aware the official name for Taiwan is Republic of China. Interesting history lesson. Thanks 🙏 😊

  15. I visited last year and you just reminded me that since I’m in Manila now, it would be easy to visit yet again.

  16. For a place to stay in Naha I highly recommend La Passione guesthouse (if you can snag a room), the breakfasts are really good!

  17. Taiwan is so beautiful. Don't let the CCP buy you out. Taiwan is a country, and it's being threatened by China.
