Japan’s popularity is skyrocketing! In 2024, a record-breaking 36.8 million foreign visitors came to Japan. But with this surge, both positive and negative changes are happening.
On the bright side, Japan is improving its immigration system to speed up entry, and Uber is expanding across the country, making transportation easier.
However, there are downsides too—Japan is facing a major flu outbreak, “foreigner pricing” is becoming more common, and train fares, including tourist rail passes, are going up.
In this video, I’ll cover 9 key updates you need to know before visiting Japan in 2025, so you can travel smarter, smoother, and stress-free!

Greetings from Oklahoma Toshi our favorite Japanese guide! BTW it's me winniethepoohandeeyore2! Had to create a whole new account, name, everything. Long story! 😂😂😂
Thanks for the updates!
While Japanese 🇯🇵 tourists came to our country Canada 🇨🇦 on high Yen 💴, we never ask Japanese people special tourist price. Why I have to pay different while is my turn? This just make Japanese 🇯🇵 become lower class citizen in the world stage 🧐.
In the US we had the worst bird flu too I’m still sick even though it’s been over a month.
For amusement parks, there are always different prices on things like age, group size , etc, so i dont mind. For things like food and shopping, it's not right.
Can confirm the flu, a lot of the people on the plane on my flight home was sick including myself. Barely recovered last week after being sick for 2 and a half weeks. Local Japanese friends helped me get good medicine on my last 2 days. Still worth the trip but yes be extra careful if you don’t want to get sick
This is super helpful! I'm planning on visiting October or November! I didn't know about the world expo!
Just got on the plane home from Japan 2 days ago, the amount of clearly sick passengers sneezing left and right on the plane is terrifying, . Even the ANA attendant that helped checked in my baggage was sneezing non stop.
I’m just thankful I got my flu shot last December, and went through my whole month long Japan trip unscathed.
Everyone planning to visit to Japan, highly recommend taking the Flu vaccine at least a month before your travel, Disinfect your hands regularly throughout your travel.
In Italia non ci sono differenze di prezzo all ingresso dei monumenti per gli stranieri. Ho notato la differenza in Sri Lanka e India. Secondo me la differenza è corretta . Aiuta l economia dello Stato. Non ci devono essere differenze su hotel e ristoranti. Grazie per i tuoi consigli. Spero questo autunno 2025 di venire in Giappone
Dual pricing is the mark of a backward society
The United States does it in Hawaii. Enough said. 😑
i mean it's less a flying car and more a helicopter but who cares i want in! amybe i can finally get to gifu without driving for 6 hours 😆
man i'm glad i'm going in march and not april. i don't want to osaka but… bruh… 😆
i hope they still have a place at the deer park inn in nara when i'm there…
thing is we can't make reservations since our travel routes are kinda fluid, so we might just spend some days longer in one area or some days less in the other.
But. I. Need. Shika!!!!!!!!
Japan is a tourism country, tourism is one of Japan main source of income.
The government needs to make sure that their policies do not damage that, as it will be a major disaster for the economy.
Regulating prices and making sure its fair for everyone is very important as well as making sure that the locals treat tourists with a friendly and welcoming attitude, because lately there is more and more japanese people with negative opinion on tourists.
Not all people are the same, there is good, there is bad, that is how life is, and we cannot judge millions of people based on the actions of few bad people.
Hi Toshi, does this mean when we uber from Uber app means we are actually hiring Taxi without having to call Taxi company?
I say the foreign tax is understandable, as long as it's not that far off as the regular price (10 / 15%, based on price and product/service) And that money is used to improve services.
I don't expect Japan to fully cater to foreign tourists, but certain aspects can help the situation.
I also don't expect Japan to learn all the languages in the world, but a basic level of English would be useful in most situations (tourism and foreign business interactions).
I've worked in a supermarket in a touristy area and got away with mostly English or broken German.
Their effort in English and Dutch was much appreciated on our end.
So, Learning a bit of Japanese for foreigners is a good thing, but I hope Japan learns a bit of English as well.
Both put in effort to understand each other, makes it all worth it.
Having dual pricing is stupid, but having a "discount" for locals makes more sense and doesn't sound like discrimination. The difference between one and the other is that if you standardize this discount throughout Japan, it's "fair", you know you're going to pay the tourist tax there's nothing unexpected. On the plus side, I like that what Japan is doing sounds like discrimination because I don't like when there's too many tourists and these measures will make tourists decrease (it's inevitable). Google "Laffer curve"
Hola Toshi. Soy Fernando de Argentina. En Abril visitaré Tokio por primera vez. Quería preguntarle si aceptan todas las ediciones de dólares para cambiar a yenes, o solo la última de color azul.. Cambiaré moneda en Haneda. Muchas gracias.
