   As for the tipping, i wouldn't say it's considered "rude" perse. They just get confused. And it's not part of the culture. Some restaurants even have a give back to the community as a form of tipping if you would like. I've asked a lot of my Japanese friends what they think, and they say that most of the time when you tip, they don't understand what you're doing, or they think you left money at the table.

   edit: But yes 100% agree, if you were really happy with service, you can ask to tip, if they say no since it was part of their service, you can always ask if thee's a way to give back to the restaurant or place, or the community.

   Japanese have 3 faces. people don't realize they are being fake polite to u. they hate tourist especially salaryman in Tokyo Osaka bit nicer. younger generation indifferent I guess depending how rude the tourist are but they hate us all secretly invading their country. also bitter cuz their money is struggling

   Do not tip. We don't want to westernize them. Buying/using more of their services/products help. You want to start seeing those tip memes in japan? It can happen.

    As far as tipping goes- if we are getting spa treatments especially at our hotel, is tipping also not necessary for those types of services?
